Pupil Voice describes ways in which the pupils of Turnbull High School can give opinions, take action and influence decisions that affect our School Community.  Pupil Voice is very important in helping the School develop in ways which help it best serve our young people. 

Pupil Council                            

Each year group has 2 representatives who collect information about pupil issues and then meet to discuss them with the SMT (and when required the Parent Council).   The Pupil Council have affected several changes in the running of the School such as the one way system, work of the canteen, etc. 

The Pupil Council also act a “focus group” or management group for consultations on Whole School Issues such as: 

  • SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN 
  • SCHOOL CODE OF CONDUCT
  • SCHOOL UNIFORM
  • RECOGNISING ACHIEVEMENT

To support the Pupil Council in making positive changes for young people, it has been provided with a budget to help them implement changes they have discussed. 

Rights Respecting Schools Committee

The Rights Respecting Schools Committee (RRSC) is the steering group for the School’s work on the Rights Respecting School’s Award from UNICEF.   To date, they have achieved the Recognition of Commitment Award and are working with all members of the School Community to further embed knowledge of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and so progress to Level 1 Award status.

Excellent learning in Turnbull Executive (ELITE)        

The Excellent Learning In Turnbull Executive (ELITE) is responsible for working with PT Raising Attainment to help pupils develop strategies for improving their learning.   They also conduct activities with the student body about identifying ways in which learning and teaching can be developed. 

Wider Student Body Voice                       

In addition to the targeted work from the Pupil Council, Rights Respecting Schools Committee and ELITE, the wider student body is also provided with opportunities to have their voice heard in the following ways. 

  • FEEDBACK ON LESSONS FROM POTENTIAL STAFF
  • WHOLE SCHOOL SURVEYS ON CURRENT PRACTICE
