In each of these courses we focus on further developing the 4 key skill areas of Listening and Talking, Reading and Writing.
With National 4, all assessment is graded internally and with NAT 5 –Advanced Higher there is a final exam for Reading, Writing and Listening.
Talking is assessed internally (a visiting assessor is used at Advanced Higher level).

There is also a written assignment in the foreign language for NAT 5 and Higher which is conducted internally but sent to the SQA for marking.
At Advanced Higher level the writing folio assignment is written in English but based on a foreign novel. It is also graded by the SQA.
