Letter from Head Teacher - 20 April 2012
I wish to inform you that I will be taking early retirement at the end of this school session. Since I took up post in January 1999, I have been very grateful for the dedication of staff, the commitment of parents and the support of our chaplains and local parishes. Visitors to Turnbull from the inspectorate and from other schools in Scotland and abroad are always full of praise for the young people whom they meet. They are indeed a credit to the school and their families. In particular, I would wish to highlight their generous support for the many charities which the school promotes, demonstrating their commitment to the Gospel values of compassion and justice. It has been a privilege to have been part of the Turnbull High community.
East Dunbartonshire Council will advertise the position of Head Teacher on 27 April with a view to my successor taking up post in August.

BBC Bitesize Message Boards
BBC Bitesize has launched message boards for pupils studying for their Standard Grades and Highers. As well as the games, videos and tests for our range of subjects, pupils can now post queries or help others with their revision online. There are teachers on standby to offer tips and answer queries about tricky aspects of their course.
The message boards are moderated and are open for posting daily Monday – Sunday, from 9am to 9pm.
All of their content, as well as websites, programmes and events from across the BBC that they think may be of interest to teachers, parents or learners in Scotland can be accessed through out homepage at www.bbc.co.uk/learningscotland.
Changes to the Price of a School Lunch
The price of a two course lunch in EDC secondary schools will increase to £2 with effect from 16 April 2012. Please see the attached letter.
Diamond Jubilee Holiday
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated on Tuesday 5 June 2012. A decision has been taken to move the in-service day from Thursday 24 May 2012 to Thursday 31 May 2012. Additionally, the May holiday arranged for Friday 25 May and Monday 28 May will be moved to Friday 1 and Monday 4 June respectively. This will mean that all schools and nurseries will be closed for pupils on Thursday 31 May and re-open on Wednesday 6 June 2012.
BBC NEWS SCHOOL REPORT
Every year, pupils take the roles of reporters and producers to research local stories and turn them into a news programme!
At the left are links to our current and you can right click on the link below and choose the "save target as ..." option to download and watch our current video. Enjoy!
S2 Options
Further to the Options Information Meeting for parents, we conducted a ‘test run’ of the draft options form with S2 pupils. Some changes were made to the form as a result of this exercise. Copies of the revised options form were given to parents at the S2 Parents’ Meeting. Click here to download a copy.
Due to staff absences, the S2 options interviews will now take place week beginning 16 April.
INTERNET CARD PAYMENTS FOR CASHLESS CATERING ACCOUNTS
Apologies for the problems which have been experienced with the introduction of on-line payments for the school canteen. The company phoned us yesterday to inform us that it had given our parents the payment code for another school. Parents will receive a letter in due course with the correct code. In the meantime, you should not make any on-line payments. If you have already done so, please contact the school who will arrange for the company to reimburse you.
Diamond Jubilee Holiday
The Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be celebrated on Tuesday 5 June 2012. Mr Currie, Head of Education, has received permission from the Scottish Minister to close all schools and nurseries that day. In line with neighbouring councils, a decision has been taken to move the in-service day from Thursday 24 May 2012 to Thursday 31 May 2012.
Mr Currie regrets that this change to the previously notified holiday arrangements may cause parents/carers some difficulty. However, it is hoped the alignment of this holiday with neighbouring authorities will ease child care difficulties for the majority of parents/carers.
A letter from Mr Currie to parents/carers was issued on Monday 5 December.

Text Alerts
From Monday 5 September, the school will be introducing a text alert service when a pupil is marked absent and there has been no call from the parent/carer to explain the absence. It is important, therefore, that you continue to phone before school begins to notify us if your son/daughter is going to be absent. We would also be grateful if you would let us know if you change mobile phone number. The text messaging service will also be used to notify you of school events.
ENQUIRIES
The Head Teacher welcomes enquires at any time and will be pleased to arrange opportunities for interested parties to visit the school
